The ibd Advantage
ibd’s Unique Gold Standard for Business Training
Making a difference
ibd business training aims to make a difference in the success of new and existing SMEs by supporting business enterprise, entrepreneurship and business support careers. In this regard, we believe our courses have a distinctive edge.
Whether you call it training, learning or professional development, the emphasis is on helping you to get from A to B in your own business journey.
The reason our courses can outperform competitors who are delivering more traditional business training is by bridging the performance gap between where someone is and where they want to be – so our learners can be ‘success driven’.
Our courses reflect ibd’s broader role in business advice and focus on helping people bridge the gap between ‘knowing’ and ‘doing’. Helping people lift barriers to success is a key part of the ibd brand and the work ibd advisers do. We are committed to supporting you to move forward with a business or perform at a higher level.
ibd take great care to ensure that the learner is taking the right course for them. This is why we talk individually with every prospective learner before they start one of our courses to ensure the right fit in terms of eligibility and prior learning/experience – see our Frequently Asked Questions.
Learning from experience
As experienced business people, we pride ourselves on delivering practical and thought–provoking business courses, which stem from our wide range of practical experience running and working with real businesses.
Many traditional courses don’t benefit learners because they deliver content as a list of topics, focusing on delivering knowledge rather than developing skills and improving performance. However, this does not prepare you for the richer context of business or indeed any complex professional role.
Most of the time, people don’t perform better from knowing more things, but from developing skills, shifting their thinking and ultimately, improving their capabilities.
Learning that makes sense
On an ibd business course, learning activities are stimulating and interactive in order to prompt reflection, discussion & collaboration. We take you through ‘real world’ case studies and discuss examples in practice of actual business processes and challenges.
Course activities support the learner to move beyond knowledge to action. Assessment, in most cases, is activity and/or portfolio based to discourage the traditional ‘essay’ and encourage submission of evidence of learning arising from action-focused tasks.
Mentoring beyond the classroom
A ‘killer’ feature of ibd‘s business courses is effective support outside the classroom and after completion of the formal training component. This also fits with ibd’s work in local business communities and adds a unique dimension to our training offer
Not only do you have a dedicated tutor to talk to individually about your learning and assessed work, all course participants have the option of free business mentoring for a period after their course. How much and how frequently depends on the course you have chosen and your own business goals.
Your tutor or mentor can also assist you in accessing any funding you may be eligible for, such as Transmit Start Up Loans or other grants and helping you with applications.
Ensuring quality & standards
All ibd courses are quality assured to the highest standard in keeping with IOEE Academy qualification benchmarks and our own in-house policy.
Quality & standards are important across all teaching, learning & assessment processes, from the selection of our tutors and course development to the suitability of our training venues and support to learners.
Tutor Managers & Tutors are appointed by ibd because of their past experience in conducting training courses and/or coaching & facilitation, in particular, support that benefits start-up, micro, small & medium sized businesses. There is a regular exchange of views, communications & collaboration across the ibd training team.
All ibd courses integrate a sound evaluation plan to ensure the quality of the learning design, course materials and your learning experience from enrolment to certification.
